According to data from the National Statistical Institute, the population in Vidin region as of 31.12.2025 is 69,465, of which 63.44% are concentrated in towns and 36.56% in villages.

The gender distribution of the population in the region is as follows:

o men: 33,170 people, which represents 47.75% of the population in the region;

o women: 36,295 or 52.25%

In 2025, 441 people were born in Vidin region. Of these, 214 were boys and 227 were girls.

UNEMPLOYMENT

In 2025, a decrease in unemployment was reported in Vidin region. The average monthly number of registered unemployed is 3,979 people compared to 4,029 in 2024.

The unemployment rate in the district on average for 2025 is 14.53 percent compared to 14.71 percent for the same period in 2024.

For the Labor offices, the average annual unemployment rate is as follows:

o 8.44 percent of economically active persons for DLO Vidin

o 36.08 percent for DLO Belogradchik

o and 25.9 percent in DLO Kula (25.66 percent in 2024)

Distribution of the unemployed by territorial basis

In 2025, in DLO Kula the average monthly number of registered unemployed persons increased compared to 2024 and reached 503 people. In DLO Belogradchik the number decreased and reached 1,734 people. In DLO Vidin the number reached 1,742 people.

• By gender

The average monthly number of unemployed women in Vidin region for 2025 is 2,011 people, and men – 1,968 people.

The ratio of men: women in the region is 49.46:50.54 per cent.

• By age

In the structure of the unemployed by age, the smallest group in the region is the group of unemployed people aged up to 19, and the largest is the group of people aged over 55.

• In January - December 2025, the average monthly number of unemployed persons under 29 registered in the region was 541 persons. Their relative share in the total number of unemployed persons was 13.59 percent.
• In the age group from 30 to 44, the unemployed are 7.07 percent fewer, and their average monthly number reaches 1,145 people. Their relative share in the total number of registered unemployed is 28.78 percent.
• The unemployed aged 45 to 49 are 493. Their relative share is 12.39 percent.
• The average monthly number of people registered in Vidin region in the over 50s group increased by 4.24 percent and reached 1,800 people. Their relative share during the period under review was 45.23 percent.

• By professional background and education

In 2025, in Vidin region, the largest group of unemployed people without a specialty is 2,367 people or 59.49 percent of those registered for the reported period. The second largest group is the group of unemployed people with a working profession of 1,138 people and the smallest is the group of unemployed specialists of 474 people

Persons without a specialty continue to be the largest in number and with the largest relative share in the professional structure of the unemployed. These are people with low qualifications and educational level, with low mobility. They are the main component of long-term unemployed people.

The unemployed with secondary education are the largest group in the educational structure. In 2025, they are 1,845 people or 46.36 percent of the total number of unemployed registered in Vidin region.

The relative share of people with primary and lower education in the total number of unemployed is 48.58 percent (48.77 percent in 2024).

The low level of education and qualification of these people predetermines their weak competitiveness in the labor market and the inability to meet the requirements of employers.

This in turn leads to the long duration of their stay in the labor market and they mainly form the group of long-term unemployed.

The unemployed with higher education have the smallest number and relative share in the educational structure. Last year, they were 202 people for Vidin region. Their share in the total number of registered people is 5.07 percent.
