The Regional Governor Plamen Stefanov participated in a discussion of the project Danube Region +

The Regional Governor of Vidin Region Mr. Plamen Stefanov participated in a discussion on project \"Danube Region +\", funded by the South-East Europe Translational cooperation programme - 2007-2013. The workshop was attended by Her Excellency Judith Lang, Ambassador of Hungary to Bulgaria, Mrs. Nikolina Nikolova, Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Public Works, Gergo Gergov, Mayor of Vidin municipality and Mrs. Mariana Nikolova, project manager and a representative of the National Association of Municipalities in Bulgaria. The project \"Danube Region +\" is implemented in eight countries - Bulgaria (Vidin, Montana, Vratsa, Pleven, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Razgrad and Silistra Regions), Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine. 

In his address to the official guests the Governor expressed the view that the potential of the Danube River has been ignored and stressed that the experience of European countries can be used in development of projects. According to Mr. Stefanov the unique infrastructure of the region is a real opportunity to develop recreation tourism and agriculture. \"I will continuously pay attention to what the local governments in the municipalities in Vidin Region make in order to benefit in the most rational way of all possible programmes offering development for the Danube region,\" said Mr. Stefanov. 

The main project activities related to the development of tourism and freight transport along the Danube River (one of the main transport corridors in Europe) will be included in the package of policies and regional strategies to promote the Danube Region have been discussed at the meeting.
