The Regional governor of Vidin: NIMH warns of expected rise in river levels in Northwestern Bulgaria

The situation in the region is currently being monitored and, if necessary, actions are being taken to implement measures for security and protection of the population

In connection with the intense rainfall in recent days, the National institute of Meteorology and Hydrology (NIMH) has warned of the risk of flash floods. The level of rivers in the Vidin and Montana regions is expected to rise.

The Regional Governor of Vidin, Ani arutyunyan, also warned about the rainfall and the sharp drop in temperatures a few days ago, informing the public about the expected deterioration of the weather and appealing for preventive measures to be taken by the population, institutions and municipal administrations.

NIMH warns to monitor the rivers in the Vidin region. The warning applies to the Danube river and the section between the mouths of the Topolovets-Voynishka-Vidbol-Archar-Skomlya-Lom rivers, on the territory of the municipalities of Novo selo, Dimovo, Vidin and Lom. The level of the Timok river in the municipality of Bregovo, the Topolovets river, as well as the Deleynska, Rabrovska, Polyanska and Vidbol rivers, on the territory of the Vidin region, is also expected to rise.

The mayors of municipalities have been ordered to introduce an organization for 24-hour monitoring by the operational duty officers in the municipalities, as well as active monitoring of the forecasts of the National institute of meteorology and hydrology and the situation on the ground, including timely information to the population through the media, the websites of the institutions and the BG-ALERT system, if necessary, with the municipal administrations coordinating the distribution of messages and instructions to citizens.

The situation in Vidin region is currently being monitored and, if necessary, actions will be taken to implement measures for security and protection of the population, the Regional governor informed.

Ani Arutyunyan also appealed for tolerant and responsible behavior on the road, taking into account the current weather conditions.
