Today, October 7th, 2025, a work meeting was held in the town of Vidin, organized by the "Independent expert network-NIE" Association, to raise awareness of the Charter of fundamental rights of the European Union and its application in the management and use of European Union funds.
During the discussions, the Deputy regional governor, Mrs. Irena Nikolova, who is also the chairperson of the Regional council for the implementation of the policy on the rights of persons with disabilities in Vidin region, emphasized that compliance with fundamental rights is a key condition for the effective and sustainable use of European resources, as well as for increasing citizens' trust in EU policies.
The participants in the meeting united around the need for close cooperation between the state, local authorities and the non-governmental sector, commenting on practices in implementing the principles of non-discrimination, an accessible environment for people with disabilities, deinstitutionalization, as well as overall management in the implementation of social policies at the regional and local levels in ensuring an equal life for vulnerable social groups.
